The purpose of this day is to fervently ask God for His mercy on our land and for the healing and conversion of our hearts.
Our nation and world are suffering for many reasons including COVID-19, racial injustice, civil unrest, moral decay, a lack of respect for human life at its most vulnerable stages, and a rejection of God and His Law in much of the public square. We will dedicate this day to come together spiritually and cry out to God for deliverance. However, significant change must begin at home and within our own hearts. So, we ask God to transform ourselves and our families according to His Will. When we are truly transformed, God can use us as His instruments to transform the world.
If then my people, upon whom my name has been pronounced, humble themselves and pray, and seek my face and turn from their evil ways, I will hear them from heaven and pardon their sins and heal their land. + 2 Chronicles 7:14
Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. + Philippians 4:6-7
Treat the day like a Sunday, the whole day given over to God. Do not shop or spend money and avoid unnecessary work.
If you are physically able, it is suggested that only liquids (which could include milk) be taken until the evening meal. If you are unable to miss meals, give up something else that you regularly consume and enjoy (Examples: sweets, soda, beer, TV).
